Q: I had the procedure of those clips they put on your tubes so you can not become pregnant. Is it possible something went wrong, because I feel like I did when I was pregnant with my 2 children? That is, I feel sick at my stomach in the morning and late at night. I still have had my period every month but they have been different. Could this happen, or is it just in my head?
A: Following tubal sterilization a poststerilization symptom complex has been described. In particular, the symptoms associated with this entity include excessive menstrual bleeding, often with the passage of clots, referred to as menorrhagia, pevic discomfort, and ovarian cyst formation. Furthemore, psychologic or sexual function abnormalities may occur.
Thus, specifically addressing your question, menstrual changes as described above may, indeed occur following tubal ligation. Furthermore, both pelvic discomfort and even the presence of ovarian cysts may be associated with this procedure. I would suggest in your case that you visit your physician so that he carefully examines you and also does an ultrasound to determine whwther other possible source of pathology may be found to explain your symptoms.
