  • Digestive Disorders

  • What does paralytic ileus mean, what causes it, and how can we fix it?
  • What does the presence of blood in my stool and on the toilet paper mean?
  • What exactly is a Hemangioma and what causes these to form? I recently had a right colon resection with ileocolostomy and during a CT scan concerning the above they found a 3 cm hemangioma on my liver. Could this be related to the surgery in any way and is there any reason to be concerned about this? Is there a need for another CT or any test for this in the future? Is there any danger of bleeding if I were to be injured in that area?
  • I am having terrible stomach cramps, very loose bowel movements, chills and severe sweating, general fatigue, and no appetite. Also, I am bloating in my stomach area and have been vomiting occasionally. However, I do not have a fever. I went to my regular doctor 3 weeks ago when I had stomach cramps and he did a kidney and liver test which all turned up ok. Any suggestions? This has been going on for 3 weeks.
  • I am a 42 years old female. For the past three weeks I have had a tender area under my right ribcage. Pains come and go also, with a vague sense of uncomfortableness constantly. My doctor did a liver battery, hepatitis testing, upper GI, and gallbladder ultrasound, with all tests being normal. He now tells me not to worry about it, that it might be viral. My appetite is fine. I'm more tired lately, and do not have fever. What would your suggestion be as to the cause?
  • I was recently diagnosed with acute pancreatitis. After a short hospital stay, my doctor took me off of my oral contraceptives. There seems to be so many factors that could cause pancreatitis, and mine is a bit of a mystery. After I remain off the pill for 2-3 months, do you think it would be okay if I start taking them again? (I have used them with no problems for about 6 years now. Could they suddenly start giving me pancreatitis?!)
  • I was told by my doctor that I have an ulcer. He looked in my intestines with a tube and did a biopsy. He gave me some medicines, including some antibiotics. He said that he gave me these antibiotics because there were some bacteria in the tissue he biopsied., which he thought might be responsible for causing the disease. This confused me. How can antibiotics help for ulcers?
  • I am a 52 year old woman and have recently been told by my physician that my hematocrit is 26. I have occasionally noticed that my stools are black but otherwise do not have any symptoms. My physician referred me to a gastroenterologist, but I do not understand why, as I feel well.
