ABNORMAL TEST WHAT "ABNORMAL" MAY INDICATE
Red color
  • Abruptio placenta. Damage to fetus, placenta or umbilical cord.
Bilirubin absent when time for baby to be delivered
  • Hemolytic disease of the newborn.
Meconium present
  • Fetal distress.
Creatine more than 2mg/100 dl
  • Immature fetus (less than 27 weeks)
L/S ratio more than 2
  • Immaturity of baby's lungs.
Phosphatidylglycerol
  • Immaturity of baby's lungs.
Glucose more than 45mg/10 ml
  • Overactive fetal pancreas, which may lead to low blood sugar in newborn
Alpha-fetoprotein too high
  • Possible spina bifida or anencephaly
  • Nephrosis.
  • Contamination of fetal blood.
  • Bacteria (germs) Infection.
Chromosome abnormalities
  • Chromosome disorders.
Acetylcholinesterase present
  • Possible spina bifida, exophthalmos or other serious birth defect.
