Step by Step: Eating to Lower Your High Blood Cholesterol

Introduction

Eating to Lower Your High Blood Cholesterol

Anyone can have high blood cholesterol. But, because there are no warning signs, you may have been surprised to learn that you have high blood cholesterol. The good news is that you can take steps to lower it.

The best way to lower your high blood cholesterol is to eat foods low in saturated fat, total fat, and cholesterol; be more physically active; and lose weight, if you are overweight. To help you do these things, this resource is divided into four parts:

Chapter 1: Ready...

Gives you some facts about high blood cholesterol and how it relates to heart disease.

Chapter 2: Get Set...

Gives you general rules for diet, physical activity, and weight loss to lower blood cholesterol. It also tells you about the Step I and Step II diets.

Chapter 3: Go!

Gives you practical tips for adopting heart-healthy eating habits and increasing physical activity. It tells you how to buy and prepare foods, and how to follow your new way of eating when in restaurants or at social events. It also gives tips for being more physically active and tells you what to look for, if you are choosing a weight loss program.
